Tucked into an old stone quarry on the Hedley family’s working farm, The House in the Hill is one of the most quietly remarkable places to stay in the Scottish Borders. A living, wildflower-covered roof lets it blend into the hillside, while large windows bring the rolling farmland right into the room. Every bedroom has a panoramic view from the pillow.
It’s fully off-grid, powered by solar and ground-source energy and drawing natural spring water from its own borehole. None of that comes at the expense of comfort: there’s underfloor heating, a ceiling-hung log burner, luxury bedding and robes, and Scottish eco toiletries waiting for you. Outside, a wood-fired hot tub sits ready for starlit evenings, and a path winds up to a roof terrace with 360° views across the hills.
